Coaching: Head Coach Kenrick Smith will be hosting the Pinnacle Altitude Training Trip. With his extensive background, knowledge and passion for running, he will set the athletes up for success. This is a Cross Country based camp. Lots of emphasis is put on fundamentals of running, mechanics, mental toughness, understanding your body and how it performs, strengths and weaknesses, and understanding your pacing so you can use it to your advantage in training and racing. Coach Smith will oversee every workout and help the athletes work through each workout to the best of their ability.
Specifics: The goal is to get our runners into an environment that will help enhance their running as they enter into their high school XC seasons. Altitude training adds a different type of stressor to the body that we can’t mimic here at home (at sea level). Heading out to Flagstaff and training at altitude will help our athletes take their training to a new level. The effects the thinner air will have on our athletes will allow them to perform better once they get back to sea level. Workouts will be catered for the group and the different ability levels within the group. We will be working on specific things during each one of workouts to improve our endurance, speed, strength, and understanding of our bodies and what they are capable of. We will be taking full advantage of Flagstaff's wonderful trail system. The goal is to have 2 practices a day. Below is a mock up itinerary of typical Pinnacle Training Day.
Logistics: We will be based out of Arizona Mountain Inn and Cabins (website is above). It isn’t mandatory that you and your athlete stay there but highly encouraged to keep logistics easier. They have a variety of cabins and lodging opportunities depending on what you are looking for. If you want to stay somewhere else though you are more than welcome to. Meals will need to be covered by the athlete and their families. Each athlete must be accompanied by at least one parent. I am going to rent a van so I can transport any and all athletes to our training site on any given day. I will provide extra water and Gatorade for our athletes when we are out training. I am hoping to have at least two team meals together along with numerous fun activities aside from running to bring the athletes together to bond.
