We arrived at the hotel to be greeted by Macaws and Cockatoos squawking while we checked in, and the spandex was in full force in the lobby. The “buzz” was starting. We decided to just get situated before we started worrying about anything else. We went into Old San Juan which is a nice little culture rich town with smell of the food in the air, and the bright colors of the buildings staring at you.
We had a chance to swim in the Lagoon where the race is going to place and the water felt comfortable, I felt good and strong, and the course looks pretty straight forward (only 2 turns). After the swim headed out to the run course on our bikes to scope at the entire run course and let me tell you it is going to be a bear. It looks tough but am very excited for the challenge.
As for the bike not sure what to except we do not have a car so there is no chance of seeing the course since most of it is going to take place on major highways/interstates. The wind has been about a constant 25MPH since we arrived and isn’t suppose to let up. I am anticipating a very wild ride, depending on the direction it will be blowing.
Overall the trip so far is going well. I am having an issue with shifting, my chain keeps popping back and forth between gears. I have to take it over to the mechanic Saturday to have him look at it. Also Saturday we have mandatory bike and bag check-in, and a lot of last minute preparation for Sunday. I can’t wait to race I feel physically and mentally ready, now I just need to go and perform. Stay tuned for more news.
Sorry for any typos and stuff like that, just disregard.
